The student’s grade level at the time of the application determines whether the applicant is considered a middle school or a high school student.

Students who attend private schools and students who are related to a member of the Assistance League of Bellingham are not eligible.

Summer programs are chosen by the students, not ALB. ALB scholarships can be used for a variety of summer camps or programs (e.g., outdoor education, music, art, dance, debate, leadership, chess, science, college prep, computer programming, etc). ALB does not fund sports camps, private lessons, classes for credit and religion-based camps. The program fees for school sponsored summer travel programs may be considered on a case by case basis. ALB does not fund transportation costs; ALB only funds tuition and fees. Payment is made out to the camp or program, not an individual. Scholarships are awarded on merit and are not need-based.

In summer of 2026:

We will fund one program/camp for up to $1,200 for high school students and up to $600 for middle school students.

Every public middle and high school in Whatcom County is guaranteed that at least one student who completes an application will receive a scholarship.

Applications are due on or before March 21, 2026. Applications may be mailed or hand delivered to the ALB Thrift & Gift Shop at 2817 Meridian Street, Bellingham, WA 98225, but must be received by no later than March 21, 2026 to be considered.

How to Apply:

Students must submit: (1) a completed application form, (2) the recommendation form written by an adult who is not a family member, (3) a written essay in response to one of the essay questions and (4) a completed publicity consent and release form or make a request to waive this requirement on the same form.

Application forms and additional information are available from school counselors and can be downloaded below.

**********************************************************************************************************

Students who are awarded a scholarship will be notified by phone or email by April 10, 2026.
Students should plan to complete the registration process of their chosen program as soon as possible after notification of their award.

QUESTIONS?
