On Friday, May 16 the Assistance League Hospitality Committee hosted a tour of the Van Wingerden Greenhouses. The tour was led by Jen Alvarez, a member of the Van Wingerden family who have been growing for nurseries since 1910. She led our group through part of the nine acres of greenhouses they have in Blaine (another five acres in their second location). We were dazzled by the hundreds of gorgeous hanging baskets, and row upon row of brilliant annual flowers! She also showed us some of the machinery they use to plant, irrigate, and care for the plants. We finished the tour in their beautiful public nursery and gift shop.<\/p>\n
