Secret Santa to 269 Seniors

As part of our Senior Caring program, Assistance League of Bend provided holiday gifts to 269 seniors in need. Residents from 14 assisted living facilities in Bend, LaPine and Redmond provided us with “wish lists.” Volunteers shopped for these personalized items and delivered the wrapped gifts in mid-December. Many of the requested items were as simple as pillows, bedding, crossword puzzle books, electric shavers and diabetic shoes, although some requests were more creative: a stuffed cat that “meows” when petted, coloring pens and books and a sharable tin of popcorn. The recipients ranged in age with the oldest senior being 104 years old and a median age of 88. Our member volunteers were assisted in providing gifts for our seniors by the generous members of Temple Beth Tivkah congregation of Bend and the Falls Community of Eagle Crest in Redmond.
