{"id":3274,"date":"2018-03-15T08:47:52","date_gmt":"2018-03-15T14:47:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.assistanceleague.org\/bend\/?page_id=3274"},"modified":"2026-02-03T14:46:47","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T22:46:47","slug":"hats-hats-hats","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.assistanceleague.org\/bend\/philanthropic-programs\/hats-hats-hats\/","title":{"rendered":"Hats and More"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text][\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2>Distributes Handmade Hats and Other Comfort Items that Provide Support for Those Undergoing Cancer Treatment<\/h2>\n<p>Thousands of beautifully knitted, crocheted and sewn hats have been created by members and community volunteers for Deschutes County chemotherapy patients who have lost their hair during treatment for cancer.&nbsp;&nbsp;In addition, knitted hats for the homeless are distributed at the Bend Community Center and through Mosaic Medical\u2019s mobile medical vans that serve Bethlehem Inn, The Family Kitchen, and Shepherd\u2019s House.&nbsp;&nbsp;Members also provide hats to Mountain Star Relief Nursery for children ages 6 weeks to 4 years of age.<\/p>\n<p>In 2017, volunteers started making \u201cknitted knockers\u201d \u2014 knitted or crocheted bra inserts used by women who have undergone mastectomies. Last year, volunteers created 300 sets of knitted knockers, which are soft, washable and customizable to an individual\u2019s needs.
