Assistance League members distributed over 200 free handmade hats, \u201cknitted knocker\u201d breast
\nprostheses, comfort shawls, and therapeutic heat pillows\u00a0to\u00a0race participants at the Heaven Can
\nWait event that was held October 1, 2023.
\nAssistance League of Bend has been a participating vendor at the annual Heaven Can Wait 5K
\nwalk\/run since 2014. This event draws hundreds together with a shared mission to raise funds
\nfor Sara\u2019s Project, a fund of St. Charles Foundation. Sara\u2019s Project provides education, early
\ndetection, and support services to ease the challenges of breast cancer for people in Central
\nand Eastern Oregon.
\nAssistance League members and volunteers meet several times a month to handcraft the hats,
\n“knitted knockers”, comfort shawls and therapeutic pillows. Since its inception, the Hats and More
\nprogram has supplied thousands of\u00a0 these handmade items\u00a0to the infusion centers located at
