Make a New Year’s Resolution You Can Keep: Declutter and Donate

Donating used items is one New Year’s resolution that’s easy to keep; declutters your home; has a positive impact on the planet and can benefit Assistance League, a philanthropic organization with a nationwide chain of high quality thrift shops.

Whether you have clothes you no longer wear, a prized lamp or an old set of dishes, you can feel good about donating to an Assistance League thrift shop. The shops represent a significant percentage of the revenue raised by local Assistance League chapters to support programs, primarily focused on children in need.

Assistance League’s signature program, Operation School Bell®, helps children succeed in school by providing new clothing; health and food assistance; and literacy, cultural and higher educational enrichment. Other programs serve the needs of adults and families, so every dollar generated in an Assistance League thrift shop, either through donations or sales, counts in a big way.

Nearly all Assistance League thrift shops are fully staffed by member volunteers dedicated to providing quality items for resale by cultivating a consistent and considerate donor base. Stop in to see the wide variety of well-displayed, top-notch merchandise, which has earned Assistance League kudos from “thrifters” around the country. A map of nationwide locations, along with hours, can be found above by clicking Find A Chapter or Thrift Shop.

Thrift shops are one of the fastest growing segments of the retail industry. Nationally, thrift shops represent $17 billion per year in revenue. That’s a lot of lower cost items sold to eager bargain hunters, giving credence to the old saying that one person’s discards are another person’s treasures.

So try on an outfit once – try it on twice and, if you don’t feel good about wearing it, donate it. You’ll be glad you did!
