Albuquerque – KRQE Cares Shoes for Kids

KRQE Cares Shoes for Kids is about the kids in our community. In partnership with Assistance League of Albuquerque and several corporate sponsorships, such as Kirtland Federal Credit Union, we have set out to make a difference in the lives of children in New Mexico. ‘Shoes for Kids’ is a program that puts brand new athletic shoes on children in Title 1 elementary schools.

Every child in the school gets a new pair of shoes, this is an average of 400 students per school. Over 15,000 shoes have been given to children – some have never owned a BRAND NEW pair of shoes. The children express that they can now jump higher and run faster. We also hope that this will be one less expense that a parent or guardian living in poverty would have to struggle with.  Teachers agree strongly that this effort results in increased confidence in students as evidenced by increased participation in class, and a positive impact on attendance.

Plesae join us to continue to put new shoes on kids by donating new shoes at any one of the Payless Shoesource stores, or by going to this link to donate (your donation is to our nonprofit partner, Assistance League of Albuquerque and will be designated to the KRQE Cares Shoes for Kids program).
