Metro Columbus – Presents Ada Edwards Laughlin Award to Margaret Lutz

metro columbusMargaret Lutz received the Ada Edwards Laughlin Award at the Metro Columbus chapter annual meeting on May 23, 2016.  The award was named for the co-founder of Assistance League, a woman who was less visible, but filled the role of hardworking behind-the-scenes assistant to Ann Banning, the founder.

Margaret signed the original charter as a guild member in 1998, and was one of the original 39 members.  Today she is one if the six remaining charter members.

The success of the Metro Columbus guild rested on a few shoulders to get it off the ground, and Margaret was one of those persons with broad shoulders.  If you wanted something done, you asked Margaret.  Assistance League has been a passion of Margaret, and she fully believes the goal of the chapter is helping those “in need.”

She was the first Vice President, Membership and has served in that capacity numerous times, always keeping her eye out for prospective members.  She also served as Education chairman several times.

Margaret has held a number of garage sales at her home and is always looking for ways to “make money.”  Come rain, wind or cold, the sale had to go on.  Plants are another passion of Margaret, especially perennials.  Every year she digs up hundreds of perennials from her backyard garden and repots them to sell at the annual plant sale.  Her contributions of pots and plants have contributed thousands of dollars to the chapter treasury.

These are just a few of the many contributions Margaret Lutz has made to the success of the Metro Columbus chapter and why she is the first member to receive the prestigious Ada Edwards Laughlin award.
