Northern Virginia – Partners with Dominion Energy to Provide Weekend Food

HERNDON, Va. – Kids who go hungry face a number of problems and often struggle to learn and grow in school. That’s why Dominion Energy is partnering with the Assistance League of Northern Virginia for their weekend food packing event.

With non-perishable items such as cereal, macaroni and cheese and oatmeal, volunteers packed more than 1,600 meals in less than an hour. Organizers of the event said the supplements help students come to school on Mondays ready to learn and achieve their full potential.

“We realized that there was a significant need in our schools for food over the weekend for students who get free and reduced lunch on the weekdays but they don’t have anything to eat over the weekend,” Lynne Barron said, vice president of Philanthropy for Assistance League of Northern Virginia.

“It’s one of our core pillars getting involved in the community our people love it and it gives us a reason to get out and help,” Matt Love said, manager for Dominion Energy.

The meals will be delivered and distributed to students at six schools in Fairfax County, the City of Alexandria, and Prince William County.
