Riverside – Collects Books for Literacy Drive

Assistance League of Riverside is conducting its seventh annual children’s book drive through Feb. 25. The books will be given to children clothed in the chapter’s Operation School Bell program.

People may donate new or gently used books at the chapter’s Thrift Shop, 3707 Sunnyside Drive, Riverside. The shop is open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

Donated books are also accepted at Cellar Door Books, 5225 Canyon Crest Drive, Suite 30A, and at Downtowne Bookstore, 3582 Main St., both in Riverside.

Members of Assisteens, a teen auxiliary of Assistance League, are promoting the book drive at their high schools: Crystal Hsueh at Riverside Poly High School, Jayden Hackbarth at Martin Luther King High School and Lane Ferguson and Sydney Manno at Hillcrest High School. AVID students also are collecting books at Ramona High School and Education Options Center.

The book drive is part of Legacy for Literacy, a National Assistance League program held by chapters throughout the country. The intent of the program is to foster readingin preschool through 12th grade.
