Santa Barbara – Great Jazz and Fun for Seniors

By Bonnie Carroll

It was a festive holiday gathering at the Assistance League Santa Barbara where area seniors were invited to enjoy the Friendship Luncheon to celebrate and share in the joy during a delicious luncheon prepared and served by volunteers. Guests included seniors from a variety of senior living residences in Santa Barbara and the surrounding area.

Fantastic holiday jazz renditions were presented by Leslie Lembo, Gerry Friedenthal and Del Franklin who perform at Soho in Santa Barbara. The talented group had guests singing along and a few couples were dancing. During dessert, a raffle provided gift envelopes and lovely orchid centerpieces went to guests born closest to Christmas. Following lunch, guests were invited to shop in the Assistance League shop where great holiday items were on sale.

The Assistance League Thrift Shop is a very popular place to find great buys on just about everything you could need in your home or wardrobe, and volunteers put in countless hours preparing and placing items in the shop for sale, as well as handling customer sales. I love their enthusiasm and dedication and I shop there myself.

Assistance League of Santa Barbara is an all-volunteer organization serving the community through its philanthropic programs since 1948. Approximately 350 members volunteer over 50,000 hours a year to provide countless goods and gifts to a variety of age groups in the area. A bevy of committees provide special care to various areas of need in the community.
