Reno-Sparks – Feeding Seniors

Assistance League of Reno-Sparks Food Pantry program was initiated in 1980. Over the last 33 years, this program has distributed more than 114,000 food bags to Washoe County senior citizens. On the third Tuesday of each month, 440 qualified seniors receive two bags of groceries at the Senior Center.

The recipients pick up their two bags at the Washoe County Senior Services Center on 9th Street. Approximately 40 pounds of food is distributed in the two bags. In 2014-15, 412 recipents received food and sundries. Home bound seniors and recipients from the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony receive bags as well as the Elder Abuse Program of Washoe County and the State of Nevada. Grooming kits are also included in the bags.

Funding for this program is through donations, grants, and proceeds from the Assistance League Thrift Shop.
