Kathy Henkel Receives the Peg McCurdy Award

The Peg McCurdy Award is for the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year in a leadership role. The award was established in 1989-1990 to honor our pint-sized walking ambassador of goodwill. This award was to recognize Peg for her many years of outstanding support of the Assistance League, the membership, and our programs. She did it all!  Since then, it has become a special award presented each year to one of our many deserving members.

Kathy has been a member since 2016 and is heading into her fifth year as the Treasurer for the Boise Chapter. Kathy is also the assistant treasurer for the national organization and was selected for this position by the current national treasurer out of all the chapter treasurers.

She is a hard worker and has spent hours keeping our books in order and makes sure we follow appropriate rules in spending. Kathy has also volunteered with Teen Retail, Operation School Bell® and Operation School Supplies. She has been a valuable coordinator with the Canyon County Branch and their Operation School Bell programs held at JC Penney.  Kathy is also part of the team that makes Bookmarks for Operation School Bell.

Other interests include her part time position in retail and crafting.

Kathy says that she was encouraged by another member, Pat Fletcher, to join.  She was new to the area and wanted to meet people.  What impresses Kathy about this organization is the amount of money we are able to return to the community, “it is amazing!”
