\u201cA healthy beginning for each mother and baby \u2026\u201d<\/em><\/h2>\n

Bottles, diapers, baby wipes and blankets\u2026just some of the items needed to keep the Stork\u2019s Nest fully stocked with things that every baby needs. The Stork\u2019s Nest relies on the generosity of the community for these infant care necessities. Assistance League\u00ae of the Chesapeake participates each year by providing donations to the Stork\u2019s Nest store. Our December meeting is special because it\u2019s when we hold a \u201cbaby shower\u201d to collect the items being donated by our members and their friends.<\/p>\n

The goal of the Stork\u2019s Nest program<\/a> is to prevent premature births, low birth weight babies and infant mortality. It\u2019s a partnership with the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center, Anne Arundel County Department of Health, the March of Dimes Maryland Chapter and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Rho Eta Zeta Chapter.<\/p>\n

The Stork\u2019s Nest provides educational classes ranging from prenatal to infant care, utilizing a points-based incentive system for women to earn and \u201cpurchase\u201d infant care items until the baby turns 12 months old. Any pregnant woman in Anne Arundel County is eligible to participate, with a priority of engaging pregnant women who do not receive regular prenatal care and who are at risk for infant mortality or premature birth.<\/p>\n
