Our theme was \u201cThe Many Hats We Wear,\u201d and we celebrated all that our members do in the community. \u201cThe ability of women to fill so many roles demonstrates our versatility, resilience, and ability to adapt to various situations and challenges,\u201d said President Cindy Whittle.<\/p>\n<p>We also celebrated a year filled with \u201cfirsts.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We welcomed 15 new members, bringing our total to 90.<\/li>\n<li>We provided 3,100 school uniforms to children at seven local Title I schools.<\/li>\n<li>We gave 1,366 books to local schools for their libraries and to students to take home and share with their families.<\/li>\n<li>Our Kids On The Block puppet troupe reached all local second-grade students with an anti-bullying video.<\/li>\n<li>We provided close to 1,000 winter hats and gloves to children at our partner schools.<\/li>\n<li>Our Greeting Card program reached hundreds of local senior citizens at assisted living and nursing home facilities.<\/li>\n<li>We held sing-alongs at two area senior living homes throughout the year.<\/li>\n<li>Our Neighbors In Need program reached many local families with clothing, furniture, and housewares, all donated by our members and the community.<\/li>\n<li>Our Project Literacy program reached hundreds of students at two local elementary schools, where we helped in the library and the classroom.<\/li>\n<li>Our total number of hours volunteered was close to 6,000.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The photo shows just a few of our members at the luncheon, where our hats told the story of all the contributions we make in our community.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Assistance League of the Chesapeake members met for their annual end-of-year luncheon on June 13.
