{"id":4782,"date":"2020-09-01T09:35:07","date_gmt":"2020-09-01T15:35:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.assistanceleague.org\/conejo-valley\/?page_id=4782"},"modified":"2025-06-27T16:51:11","modified_gmt":"2025-06-27T22:51:11","slug":"what-we-have-done","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.assistanceleague.org\/conejo-valley\/what-we-have-done\/","title":{"rendered":"What We Have Done"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row disable_element=&#8221;yes&#8221;][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">WHAT WE HAVE DONE<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Assistance League\u00a0of Conejo Valley is one of 120 chapters of Assistance League, a national nonprofit 501(c) (3) corporation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">In <span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong>2020-2021<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong>169<\/strong><\/span> dedicated chapter members and Assisteens\u00ae auxiliary members, volunteered<\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">38,753 hours<\/span>,<\/strong> and touched the lives of more than<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong>8,590 people<\/strong><\/span> in Agoura, Agoura Hills, Moorpark, Newbury Park, Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, and Westlake Village through our philanthropic programs.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong>$232,017<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0was returned directly to the community through the following philanthropic programs:<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong>$587,175* <\/strong><\/span>total revenue raised.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>UNDER OPERATION SCHOOL BELL<\/u><\/strong>\u00ae<\/p>\n<p><strong>Clothing Nights:<\/strong> 2607 elementary through high school children were provided with new school clothes and shoes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emergency Clothing Kits: <\/strong>1520 children in 19 schools were helped with a change of clothing while at school.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reading for Life:<\/strong> This program was on hold during the pandemic.\u00a0 The distribution of new books to students is to promote literacy and a love of reading.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reading for All:\u00a0<\/strong>484 students received gently used appropriate books for their use at home.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Resources for Learning:\u00a0<\/strong>200 students received tools for learning such as tablets for distance learning and other school use items.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tutoring: <\/strong>This program was on hold during the pandemic.\u00a0 Volunteers work in the classrooms to improve their reading and comprehension skills.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vision for the Future: <\/strong>122 children whose families could not afford vision care were provided with free eye exams and eyeglasses.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>IN OTHER PHILANTHROPIC PROGRAMS<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Assault Survivor Kits\u00ae and Hospital Emergency Necessities: <\/strong>300 individuals received essential clothing and grooming aids at local hospitals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eye Can See: <\/strong>54 adults in need were provided with free eye exams and eyeglasses.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fresh Start: <\/strong>1 individual getting ready to enter the workforce, was provided with an interview and work-appropriate attire.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hats of Hope: <\/strong>1,917 individuals received soft, comforting hand-made hats. Recipients included infants, cancer survivors, and the homeless.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I\u2019m in Charge: <\/strong>This program was on hold during the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Share-A-Bear: <\/strong>1,206 soft, comforting CASEY Bears were provided to those in crises, including foster children.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, <strong>Community Outreach,<\/strong> <strong>\u00a0<\/strong>a project to serve emergent needs in our community, provided 56 sleeping bags and 86 warm winter coats to the local homeless population through our <strong>Sharing the Warmth<\/strong> project.\u00a0 Our\u00a0<strong>Transitional Housing\u00a0<\/strong>project helped 6 young men and 3 young women living in transitional housing who have aged out of the foster care system with laptops, a printer, and bedroom furniture as they continue their education.<\/p>\n<p>2020-2021 marked our ninth successful year operating a Thrift Shop, which provides consistent funds to keep our philanthropic programs viable and growing.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><em>*Due to the pandemic, our shop generated no revenue from June 1, 2020 through July 13, 2020.
