Hygiene closets are now established in all schools in the Corvallis, Monroe, Alsea and Philomath school districts.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Dental Education<\/strong> <\/em>provides dental hygiene instruction to approximately 975 Benton County sixth graders each year.\u00a0 Students view our self-produced, award-winning video, \u201cThe Power of Healthy Teeth,\u201d and receive a dental hygiene kit.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Hug-a-Bear<\/strong><\/em> provides an ongoing supply of new teddy bears to local and state police, fire departments, and other Benton County agencies to comfort children in traumatic situations.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>RED (Read Every Day)<\/em><\/strong> provides books to new teachers in Benton County for their classroom libraries.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Jackson Street Youth Service Partnership\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>provides needed items for vulnerable young adults in Benton County.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6814 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.assistanceleague.org\/corvallis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/88\/2025\/05\/Funds.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2199\" height=\"1093\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.assistanceleague.org\/corvallis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/88\/2025\/05\/Funds.jpeg 2199w, https:\/\/www.assistanceleague.org\/corvallis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/88\/2025\/05\/Funds-300x149.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.assistanceleague.org\/corvallis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/88\/2025\/05\/Funds-1024x509.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/www.assistanceleague.org\/corvallis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/88\/2025\/05\/Funds-768x382.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.assistanceleague.org\/corvallis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/88\/2025\/05\/Funds-1536x763.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/www.assistanceleague.org\/corvallis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/88\/2025\/05\/Funds-2048x1018.jpeg 2048w, https:\/\/www.assistanceleague.org\/corvallis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/88\/2025\/05\/Funds-958x476.jpeg 958w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2199px) 100vw, 2199px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Other philanthropic programs over the years included the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Operation Toddler was added to Operation School Bell in 1971 to assist children of preschool age; it was discontinued in 1990.<\/li>\n<li>The Dental Care Center began at Cheldelin Middle School in 1971 with a dental chair from the office of Dr. William Snook, donated by Lilias Snook and her daughter Barbara Cameron.\u00a0 In 1990, dental services moved to local dental offices.<\/li>\n<li>From 1975 to 1984, Student Aid gave one-on-one aid to children from Mountain View Elementary School who needed help with language and math skills.\u00a0 Later the service was extended to other schools in the 509J district where needed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Our Fundraising Activities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In order to fund our philanthropic programs, Assistance League has held many fundraising activities.\u00a0 The first fundraiser, in 1968, was a garage sale that netted $300. As a cooperative venture with four other Assistance League chapters in the Northwest, we printed a cookbook entitled Nips and Dips. Other fundraisers have included The Haunted House, Red Stocking Revue, Village Fair, Mo\u2019s Chowder Luncheon, Middleman Telephone Service, Bridge Marathon, Thrift Shop (later renamed Recycle Center), gala openings for new businesses, and Holiday Boutique.
