At the January Assistance League\u00ae of Greater Placer meeting, representatives from the Placer County Government<\/span><\/a> made a presentation on the fraud, scams, and abuse perpetuated against vulnerable members of our community, especially seniors. The presentation was very informative, important, and timely.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Some of the highlights of the presentation:<\/div>\n
-Speakers defined elder abuse and told why seniors are targeted<\/div>\n
-Reported on Placer County theft, including: financial theft (money, medication, jewelry, purse, bank accounts), family member theft; telephone and caregiver theft, shopping cart and gift card theft<\/div>\n
-Described contractor scams, and added license board website to check on contractors: www.cslb.ca.gov<\/a><\/div>\n
-Advised ways to avoid scams: Create a family \u201cpassword\u201d that is only known to a few trusted family members; add suspicious callers to Do Not Call list on phone<\/div>\n
-Reported on Adult Protective Services for Placer County for residents 60+ years, dependent disabled adults 18-59 years, or vulnerable adults unable to meet their own needs<\/div>\n
-Advised ways to report suspected abuse, even if only having a \u201cgut feeling\u201d. No actual proof is needed: Call 916-787-8860, 24\/7 availability<\/div>\n
-Announced 2024 information event: Senior Resource Fair Sept. 12, 2024 10-2; Maidu, Roseville<\/div>\n
-Provided handouts about provided services and referral numbers<\/div>\n
