Assistance League of Greater Portland, Oregon<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

A nonprofit 501(c)(3) community service organization serving the greater Portland area since 1961. We fund programs by operating Assistance League Thrift and Consignment Shop, with grants, special events and donations. Our local community service programs benefit children and victims of assault. We offer scholarships for students pursuing an education in trades and support to students in Cordero\u2019s residential treatment center.\u00a0 We partner with community providers to assist the unhoused, survivors of domestic abuse, and those with emergency needs.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”3463″ img_size=”large”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

Operation School Bell\u00ae<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/h2>\n

Operation School Bell provides new clothing to PreK-12 grade students identified by school counselors as low income. In the Beaverton and Hillsboro School Districts, students are given vouchers for the purchase of new clothes at area Fred Meyer stores. In the Portland Public Schools, North Clackamas School District, and Parkrose, Centennial, David Douglas, Gresham\/Barlow and Reynolds School Districts, the Assistance League of Greater Portland purchases new clothing for the clothing closets serving those school districts.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

Assault Survivor Kits\u00ae<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/h2>\n

Assault Survivor Kits containing clothing and personal hygiene products for all genders are distributed to local hospitals and facilities for victims of assault and rape.\u00a0Victims of assault and domestic violence surrender their clothing as evidence in a medical facility. Assault Survivor Kits offer more than a fresh set of clothes; they offer dignity to survivors.<\/p>\n

Youth Support at Cordero<\/a><\/span><\/h2>\n

Assistance League supports the recovery of youth in residential treatment at Cordero, a Janus Youth Program. We provide enrichment activities, field trips and celebrations for the boys.<\/p>\n

Assistance League has supported the Cordero House since 1979.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

Scholarship Program<\/a><\/span><\/h2>\n

Assistance League of Greater Portland\u2019s Scholarship program provides funds for student candidates entering a trades program.<\/p>\n

Scholarships have been awarded to students enrolled in trades programs at Portland Community College, Clackamas Community College, and Mt. Hood Community College. Funds for tuition, books and materials help students develop skills and expertise to earn a livable wage.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”3975″ img_size=”large”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”5386″ img_size=”large” css=””][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

Community Needs<\/span><\/h2>\n

Assistance League of Greater Portland’s <\/span>newest program, Community Needs, began in June 2024 with three focus areas:<\/p>\n

Domestic Violence Survivor Support<\/h4>\n

The Assistance League partners with Victims Assistance Offices of the District Attorneys\u2019 offices in Clackamas, Multnomah, Washington counties, and the Beaverton Police Department. Domestic Violence Survivor Support provides contract-free cell phones, minute cards, Tri-Met and ride-share gift cards, and U-Haul gift certificates to meet the needs of domestic abuse survivors.<\/p>\n

Unhoused Support<\/h4>\n

The Assistance League collaborates with homeless service providers to offer gift cards for street outreach and warm clothing for those accessing shelters, equipment and supplies to support shelter operations, and new home kits for people transitioning into housing.<\/p>\n

Emergency Needs<\/h4>\n

The Assistance League is responsive to emergency community situations.
