Mother Hubbard\u2019s Cupboard – $10,000
\n<\/strong>NourishNC – $10,000<\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/3″][vc_single_image image=”5502″ img_size=”medium” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_outline” border_color=”black”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/3″][vc_column_text]Sue Aber, Assistance League VP of Philanthropic Programs, uses social distancing to give a $10,000 check to Mother Hubbard\u2019s Cupboard board member Jane Radack.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator color=”custom” border_width=”4″ accent_color=”#2c49a0″][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

“Again, let me say, WOW!!\u00a0 The Assistance League has stepped up right when our kids need it most.\u00a0 Your ($10,000) donation will provide approximately 16,800 meals for our kids at our drive thru or delivered straight to their homes … there will be a lot of full bellies and smiling kids because of y’all.\u00a0 This gift is particularly helpful because of the challenges we are facing now.”<\/em><\/h4>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_text_separator title=”Steve McCrossan, Executive Director, NourishNC” color=”custom” border_width=”4″ accent_color=”#2c49a0″][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]A husband and wife in their mid-30\u2019s both work part time, but on their biweekly paychecks could afford only two weeks in a hotel.\u00a0 The other two weeks of the month they lived and slept in a tent in the woods. \u00a0She has medical issues with debilitating pain, but scheduled surgery was delayed because of Covid-19. \u00a0They contacted the Help Hub for assistance. \u00a0Several local nonprofit agencies came together, and they are now in an affordable one room apartment. The apartment building doesn’t have kitchen availability, so the Help Hub reached out to Assistance League and we purchased a refrigerator for their apartment. They are so appreciative to be able to have temperature-controlled food and medicine storage.<\/p>\n

Since 2018, Operation Tender Loving Care has served more than ten people through the Help Hub’s referrals.\u00a0 Each case is carefully reviewed first by the referring agency and then referred to Assistance League.\u00a0 The situations are unique, and our one-time involvement also is unique.\u00a0 In 2019, a family with a special-needs child was given a car seat to assist transporting this four-year-old child to her many appointments and services.\u00a0 We have a limited budget, but we give each referral the utmost consideration.\u00a0 In 2020 a stove was purchased so a senior woman could continue to cook and eat at home. In 2021, a refrigerator was purchased from Lowe’s for a single mother and her three children.\u00a0 During the winter months of 2022, backpacks were donated through the Help Hub to the homeless at a shelter. \u00a0In 2023, fifteen fans were distributed to Brunswick Family Assistance for use by residents of the trailers have no air conditioning units.<\/p>\n
