TIME TO FEED THE METERS AGAIN: To all of our customers and members. If you park on the street and were taking advantage of the recent breakdown of the city’s 3G reliance for their parking meters… note this. Free parking is over. The city has come up with a solution that involves a new smartphone app. Users can now pay for parking using the smartphone app or pay in the traditional way, using COINS.

We have a limited number of parking stalls in front of our Thrift Shop for customer use during business hours and days. Tuesday and Thursday 9:30 am to 1:00 pm and Saturday from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm.

A press release from the city notified the media about the new parking option. Here is a link to the article that appeared in the Honolulu Star Advertiser this morning:

1,700 Oahu parking meters now accepting payment via phone app

“About 1,700 parking meters on Oahu have been configured to accept parking payments via a phone app, the City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Transportation Services announced.

The modernized meters will be primarily in the Honolulu area from Chinatown to Waikiki. Fees will remain the same.

DTS in a news release said the phone app, called Park Smarter, is a mobile payment system for the on-street parking stalls on the island.

The app only accepts credit card payments, and meters that can be paid through it will have Park Smarter stickers.

The meters will still accept coins, DTS said.”
