Celebration of Giving

Celebration of Giving 2017

The Celebration of Giving Program of the Assistance League of Houston was started over 12 years ago.  This program works with patients and their families at Texas Children’s Hospital. The social workers there select families who are in great need of financial help and whose children would not have holiday gifts without some support of the community.

Assistance League of Houston members,  businesses, and  friends of Assistance League of Houston donate money for Target gift cards, small gifts for stockings,  and food for a holiday party for the patients and their families.

The Assistance League of Houston members along with some of the members of the Houston Quilt Guild construct stockings to be given to the patients and their siblings at a holiday party at the beginning of December.  At the party we are able to meet the patients and their families along with providing lunch, games and a stocking filled with fun items.  They also get to meet Santa and get their picture made with him.

Some of the items needed for

Diana Mann, Josie Ochoa, Mary Jane Casimir, Virginia Warnsman, Louise Nuttall and Carol Hemphill at a workday for Celebration of Giving

the stockings are: crayons, markers, small coloring books and small regular books, jewelry, small flash lights, hand-held games, socks, gift card for older children, hair accessories, match box cars etc. Last year The Denali Foundation supplied each family with a lovely art kit and they plan on doing the same this year.

Dates to remember are:

  • Stuffing of the Stockings on December 4, 2018
  • Party Day is December 5, 2018.

Please consider donating to this very worthy program with your time, talent and treasure if possible.
