Research confirms that student motivation is a key factor in successful reading. We have a vision of the future where all children love to read and have books of their own to enjoy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Our volunteers provide one-on-one reading support to preschool children at Growing Minds and elementary students at Juniper School in Escondido. Volunteers meet weekly in students\u2019 classrooms \u2013 sitting side by side \u2026\u2026 <strong>reading and talking together<\/strong>\u00a0about the books children have selected to read.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Program funds make it possible for:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Volunteers to deliver gifts of books twice each year to students<\/li>\n<li>An author of children\u2019s books to visit school campuses and to present fun and interesting assemblies for all students. The author also visits classrooms and meets with students and teachers. These visits stimulate students\u2019 interest in reading and writing. Volunteers help prepare for the author\u2019s visit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/4&#8243;][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;50px&#8221;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;5416&#8243; img_size=&#8221;medium&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<strong>What skills are needed to participate in this program?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you enjoy interacting with children and sharing a love of reading, this is the program for you! Volunteers need no teaching experience. Just a positive, encouraging attitude is all that is necessary. As one volunteer commented, \u201cThis is such a rewarding program.
