[vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/6″][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”2\/3″][vc_single_image image=”9390″ img_size=”600×400″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Tours of the Howard and Asian Art Collection, a museum-quality collection of Asian artifacts located in the Assistance League of Long Beach Philanthropic Center, are conducted by trained member docents for seventh-grade students in the Long Beach Unified School District and to community groups upon request.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/6″][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/6″][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”2\/3″][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”4731,4730″ img_size=”280×420″][vc_column_text]In a museum-like setting member docents use storytelling skills to provide lively and engaging tours.\u00a0 School tours correlate with LBUSD\u2019s World History curriculum.\u00a0 Asian history and culture are brought to life by viewing art and hearing stories.\u00a0 Teachers and docents agree that experiencing art from other cultures gives children a better understanding of their own world and appreciation of their heritage.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy students love this field trip as they are able to see the actual artifacts being\u00a0taught about in class.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cYour team did a great job of piquing the students\u2019 interest in Asian History,\u00a0which is perfect because we are starting this unit this week.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Assistance League of Long Beach provides bus transportation and substitute teacher pay for the participating schools.\u00a0 The goal is to have 100% participation of selected schools\u2019 history students.<\/p>\n
