Ada Edwards Laughlin Award Winner: Karen Treaccar

The Ada Edwards Laughlin Award is named after the co-founder of The Assistance League® who was less visible and filled the role of hardworking “behind the scenes” assistant to Anne Banning.

It is in that spirit that we presented the award this year to Karen Treaccar.  Karen has been an active member of Assistance League of Newport-Mesa since 2002. She has not always been “behind the scenes” as she has been our president 3 times, and has served on the Board of Directors in almost every position.

This year, however, she came to the rescue as VP Resource Development and trained new member Erin Kim to take over the position for the 2021/2022 year. She provided “behind the scenes” service as she single handedly planned our 2020 Day of Giving, sold items online and created volunteer opportunities like “Shed the Shed” and Thrift Shop intern checklist.

She has been an advisor and mentor to many people over the years and we are so thankful for all that she does! Thank you, Karen!

Karen with her family….getting ready to take on her new role as Grandma!
