Our partnership with Franklin Farms produced another successful combined paper-shredding and food-donation event this past Saturday.\u00a0 The dark clouds didn\u2019t dampen the enthusiasm of those who participated and fortunately there was no rain on the parade of nearly 100 cars that lined up to deliver their boxes of important papers to shred.\u00a0 Seven Assistance League members and eight community volunteers helped with collecting contributions, unloading trunks full of papers for shredding, and collecting donations of nonperishable food.\u00a0 The assortment of food items donated included canned goods, cereals, grains, cooking oil and spices, all of which were delivered to the Community of Faith Food Pantry shortly after the event was completed.<\/p>\n

Once again, we congratulate our member, Maureen Dawson, for organizing such a successful event, and the Franklin Farm Social Committee for helping to reduce food insecurity through the food drive.\u00a0 Also, we couldn\u2019t host this event without the help of the volunteers who handled the range of tasks needed to ensure that the combined events ran smoothly. \u00a0Special thanks also to Eco Shred for providing the truck and the technician who oversaw the secure shredding of so many important documents.<\/p>\n

As always, Assistance League of Northern Virginia is gratified by the community support for this and our other projects.\u00a0 We look forward to more community events in the coming months.<\/p>\n
