Thrives\u00a0<\/i>Campaign.<i>\u00a0<\/i>\u00a0After less than a week, the combined contributions of our caring donors equal almost half of our fund-raising goal\u00a0of $3,000.\u00a0 If we meet that goal, the Gannett Foundation will\u00a0evaluate\u00a0our grant application to underwrite our Weekend Food for Kids program.\u00a0 Through that program, we distribute bags of food to sustain students on weekends when school meals aren\u2019t available, and also grocery gift cards to help struggling families stretch their food budgets.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout Northern Virginia, many people live in extreme poverty despite the relative affluence of the area. \u00a0Our philanthropic programs focus primarily on elementary school students, the most vulnerable in that group.\u00a0\u00a0We\u00a0provide not only food, but\u00a0also\u00a0new clothing, sneakers, toiletries, and books.\u00a0 We hope we can count on your generosity so we can reach the growing number of
