An Overview of All Our Philanthropic Programs

Chapter Members manage numerous philanthropic programs. Members come together with varied talents, background, abilities and interests for meetings and volunteer work. See pictures of how we deliver our programs in the Orange community by clicking on the various programs.

Philanthropic Programs include:

DENTAL HEALTH CENTER

Our newly remodeled Dental Health Center offers low-cost dental care and education for school-age children in our on-site facility.

LINKS TO LEARNING AWARDS

In an environment where school budgets provide for basic needs, these awards are most welcome! They are given to schools or individual teachers to fund a learning experience the children would not otherwise have.

All the different school levels are offered an opportunity to enhance and/or develop new or different approaches to instruction with scholarships for teachers and staff.

CHRISTMAS IS FOR SHARING

Assistance League of Orange provides Christmas gifts for Orange Children & Parent Together (OCPT) families in need. Without our help these families would not have anything for Christmas.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Assistance League of Orange provides financial aid to deserving high school students in the form of college scholarships.

Scholarships include technical, academic and fine arts awards.

HALOS

Helping A Little One Succeed (HALOS) is a reading tutor/mentor program. Our members work ‘one on one’ or in small groups to help students improve their reading skills.

According to Mr. Kavanaugh, a teacher at Orange Olive Elementary School, the HALOS program is a “weapon of mass instruction”.

SPECIAL ASSISTANCE

Financial support is provided for urgent household obligations to residents within the City of Orange.

SALUTE TO SERVICE

Once a year the Assistance League of Orange recognizes local high school students entering the military after graduation from high school. Students and their families are invited to share this special tribute at the Chapter House which includes dinner and guest speakers.

HANDLE WITH CARE

This program provides bags of personal care items for mothers with children in the neonatal care unit of UCI Hospital.

BOOTSTRAPS

In conjunction with Mary’s Kitchen work boots are provided for adults in need, for use in jobs requiring work boots.

OPERATION SCHOOL BELL®

Operation School Bell provides new clothing and supplies to students in need in the community, enhancing their self-esteem and chance to succeed.   Students receive clothing, hygiene kits, shoe vouchers, a backpack filled with school supplies and an age appropriate book.

Over 1,000 students receive backpacks and school supplies throughout the school year.

About 25% of Orange Unified School District students live at or below the U.S. poverty level, which is $24,300 annually for a family of four. In addition there are approximately 4% homeless students. Nearly 43% of students receive free or reduced lunches.

Requests for school supplies are initiated by school counselors.

OPERATION 101

This program provides school supplies to over 6,000 students in the Orange Unified School District.

HEALTH, HUMOR & HAPPINESS

This program provides companionship and entertainment to the senior residents of Kirkwood Orange Assisted Living Facility.

ORANGEWOOD CHILDREN & FAMILY CENTER

Our volunteers visit and provide emotional support and activities for resident children of all ages.

These are but a few of the small miracles we help make happen throughout any given year.
