I was aware of the National Assistance League and knew of Operation School Bell from my husband, a retired elementary school district superintendent. The various philanthropies of ALRSD spoke to both my heart and head: filling definite needs in our local communities, funded by the work of a committed all-volunteer membership. No paid CEO or staff, with all proceeds returning to our local communities. Using the funds to help people locally is important to Lean and me. I remember speaking with my mom\u2019s distant cousin, a well-known philanthropist in Oklahoma, who told me, \u201cI can\u2019t take care of the whole country or even the whole state, but I can definitely take care of the people of Tulsa [his hometown].\u201dMy husband and I are committed to the mission of ALRSD and want to help ensure our chapter&#8217;s future.
