Summer R.E.A.D. Roundup<\/p>\n

Even though school is out, R.E.A.D. was busy with the Summer Migrant Education Program Bookmobile visits four Thursdays at Mary Eyre Elementary School in east Salem.<\/p>\n

This activity reflects our partnership with both the Salem Public Library and the Salem-Keizer Public Schools. Our volunteers loved seeing the excitement and joy students had choosing books and receiving their very own book at the final visit to take home.<\/p>\n

New this year to our partnership with the Salem Public Library is their Community Outreach Program featuring popup events at community sites around Salem. Our Assistance League chapter supplies a supporting presence for the library staff. The program allows people to get a library card and even check out books with no library card!! Thank you Salem Public Library for inviting Assistance League to participate in this educational program.<\/p>\n

As R.E.A.D. chair, I am grateful for the 14 members and community volunteers who stepped up to help with these programs. All our lives were enriched.<\/p>\n

THE GREAT SNACK ATTACK of 2024<\/span><\/h2>\n
Over 30 volunteers from Assistance League, Salem Leadership Foundation, and Salem First Church of the Nazarene helped sort over 1400 snack boxes for 34 elementary schools, 9 middle schools, and 6 high schools.<\/h6>\n
