{"id":978,"date":"2015-08-20T17:49:17","date_gmt":"2015-08-20T17:49:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/al2.dev.confluencecorp.com\/boise\/?page_id=978"},"modified":"2025-07-04T11:06:53","modified_gmt":"2025-07-04T16:06:53","slug":"news","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.assistanceleague.org\/san-antonio\/news\/","title":{"rendered":"Auxiliary"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2>Bexar Hugs Auxiliary<\/h2>\n<h3>Who We Are<\/h3>\n<p>The Bexar Hugs Auxiliary of Assistance League of San Antonio was founded in 1994 and certified by National Assistance League in 1995. \u00a0The members of the Bexar Hugs Auxiliary are primarily professional women who worked outside their home and volunteer evenings and on Saturday. \u00a0Each member volunteers a minimum of 30 service hours per year to support their programs and fundraising efforts.<\/p>\n<h3>Mission Statement<\/h3>\n<p>The Bexar Hugs Auxiliary is a nonprofit organization created to support the programs and projects of Assistance League of San Antonio.<\/p>\n<h3>What We Do<\/h3>\n<p>The Bexar Hugs Auxiliary funds Auxiliary programs and provides support to four chapter programs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>ALamo Bears<\/strong> (see impact below)<\/li>\n<li><strong>ALamo Totes<\/strong> (see impact below)<\/li>\n<li>In support of Operation School Bell<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, the Bexar Hugs members work as needed to get the dressing area stocked and ready for distribution to children and agencies,\u00a0 The members also assemble the hygiene kits.<\/li>\n<li>Bexar Hugs also fund a\u00a0 scholarship grant and enhanced learning grant.<\/li>\n<li>Each\u00a0December, the Bexar Hugs provide\u00a0outfits to the Togs For Tots program that their members have donated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Bexar Hugs Auxiliary members staff the Assistance League Thrift House on the fifth Saturday of the month, dress students for Operation School Bell on the first and fourth Friday and the third Thursday of the month, and work side-by-side with members on other Assistance League programs.<\/p>\n<h3>Meetings and How to Join<\/h3>\n<p>Meetings are held at the chapter house, 2611 West Avenue, on the second Tuesday of each month, except June and July. \u00a0A social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by a business meeting at 6:15 p.m. \u00a0Generally, there is an opportunity before the social hour of the business meeting to work on programs.<\/p>\n<h3>Contact us:<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"bhchairman.alsa@gmail.com\">Bexar Hugs Auxiliary<\/a><br \/>\n(210) 732-1200[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_images_carousel images=&#8221;3164,3163,3162,3160,3159,3158,2861&#8243; Commitment<\/h5>\n<p>Melissa Chapman, Judy Vilcoq[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;2023-2024 Community Impact&#8221; use_theme_fonts=&#8221;yes&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;3160&#8243;][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]<strong>ALamo Bear&#8217;s<\/strong> Program of the Bexar Hugs Auxiliary provides stuffed bears to the Bexar County Sheriff&#8217;s Office.\u00a0 They are passed out to children in need of comfort due to family issues.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023-2024, 360 children were impacted by this program and member volunteers contributed 13 hours in support of this program.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;3164&#8243;][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]The<strong> ALamo Totes<\/strong> contain items that are gender and age appropriate, such as blankets, toys, books, and hygiene products.\u00a0 The recipients range in age from 5 to young teens.\u00a0 We obtain the tote bags from the &#8220;My Stuff Bags&#8221;
