Trained Assitance League of San Jose volunteers in the Screening Eyes Early (S.E.E.) program screen 3, 4 and 5 year-olds for early signs of possible vision disorders. Every year we train new screeners with a 3-hour class and a 3-hour practicum. Our volunteers are excited to play the “eye game” while supporting our preschoolers. The most important disorder we screen for is amblyopia (aka ‘lazy eye\u2019). If this disorder is not treated by the age of 10 it can cause blindness in the weak eye. \u00a0We also screen for nearsightedness and astigmatism. If we note a concern during the playing of the \u201ceye game\u2019 we will send a note to the parents referring them to an eye doctor for a diagnosis.
