Projects

Los Ojos Bonitos

Los Ojos Bonitos is our  philanthropic program adopted  in 2003. The goal of this project is to provide vision care (in the way of eye exams and glasses) to children within the communities served by Assistance League of San Pedro-South Bay. This project is funded by the proceeds from the Las Primeras fundraisers.

Fundraising

The Main Fundraiser, usually held each spring, is our major fundraising event. There have been many different types of fundraisers, each of which have been very successful. Las Primeras is proud to have many experienced, talented and professional women in its auxiliary who are always looking for the perfect fundraiser. For example, we have hosted a Flapper-themed event and A Night on the U.S.S.Iowa, all with casino gaming, dinner and dancing.

Social Activities

A social hour precedes the monthly meetings and allows members to mingle and get to know each other. In December, a “Holiday Meeting” is planned which usually takes place at a location other than the chapter house. In April, the Installation of New Officers and New Members is held at a local restaurant. Other optional social events are enjoyed throughout the year.

Las Profesionales

Las Profesionales is an auxiliary of the San Pedro-South Bay chapter of National Assistance League®. Chartered in 1995, the auxiliary allows women who are employed, to participate in and support the chapter’s fundraising and philanthropic programs. Meetings and functions are held in the evenings or weekends. Besides supporting the chapter, our philanthropic programs include  and scholarships for forensic nurses, the first to be offered in the United States.
