The Vancouver Energy Community Fund awarded a $2100 grant to Assistance League® of Southwest Washington to enable expansion of our program to three more schools starting this fall.
The check was presented at an Assistance League board meeting, and the Operation School Bell® committee has already identified three local schools that meet our criteria. Each will be assigned a liaison to stay in touch with the school principal or social worker and shop for new clothing and literacy supplies as requested.
Our program is unique in that we do not stock a clothing closet, but rather the liaison acts as a “personal shopper,” buying specific items as they are requested to meet student needs. And with the shopping prowess of our member volunteers, the money goes a long way.
