Scholarships Awarded 2025-26<\/h4>\n

The Assistance League of Wichita<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span> (ALW) hosted their annual scholarship luncheon April 28. Seventeen exceptional Wichita Public Schools seniors received first-year full-ride scholarships to WSU Tech<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span> and Butler Community College<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span>. In addition, ALW awarded 12 second year scholarships.<\/p>\n

Thanks to the Bruce G. Cochener Foundation, three students received the Nancy Cochener Scholarship, granted in memory of long-time ALW member Nancy Cochener.<\/p>\n

This marks the 37th year of the League\u2019s commitment to empowering students, with over 400 scholarships bestowed to date.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM STARTED IN 1988<\/h4>\n

We began the Assistance League of Wichita Scholarship program in 1988 for students attending WATC, Wichita Area Technical College, and awarded 4 scholarships.<\/p>\n

The program has evolved into what it is today which is a unique scholarship because it targets students with financial need who are graduating from the Wichita Public School seeking Technical certification from either WSUTech or Butler County College (BCC), enabling them to join the work force.<\/p>\n

In addition, \u00a0each student is paired with an ALW mentor who guides and supports the student throughout the year. \u00a0Most of these students are the first in their family to seek a post secondary education and this guidance and support helps them in answering questions and gives encouragement throughout the year.<\/p>\n

In 2016, we began offering a second year of education to those students successfully completing the first year.\u00a0 The first year mentor stays in place.\u00a0 Over time, in many instances a true friendship develops between the mentor and mentee.<\/p>\n

In 2025-2026 ALW granted 17 First Year and 12 Second Year scholarships.<\/p>\n

Since its inception, we have granted \u00a0over 448 scholarships to Wichita high school students as they pursue their dreams.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
