Assistance League of Austin signed our Articles of Incorporation on September 17, 1973 joining Assistance League®, a nonprofit, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization with 120 chapters in 24 states throughout the United States.   In those many years since our beginning, we have grown to 400 dedicated members contributing over 80,000 volunteer hours per year to serve the Austin community.

With the support of donors and the earnings of our THRIFT HOUSE, Assistance League of Austin is able to fund 8 programs which transform the lives of the children and adults in the Austin area. Our organization is truly the epitome of recycling.  We take in donations of used goods which are then either resold in THRIFT HOUSE, our high-end resale store, or passed on to other Austin nonprofits through our Waste Not program.  This last year, our flagship program, Operation School Bell®, reached a significant milestone by providing clothing to our 100,000th child since its beginning in 1984.  You will see throughout our website the many other ways in which our programs impact the lives of those in need in our community.  We support our youth with our Fresh Start, Operation Wish List and Outreach programs.  We touch the lives of children and adults at Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas with our programs Toy Cart and Assault Survivor Kits® and we support Austin Community College students with our Scholarships program.

You will find on our website that we have earned the 4-Star rating with Charity Navigator for the 5th consecutive year. This is the highest possible rating which only 11% of charities evaluated reach and verifies that Assistance League of Austin exceeds industry standards and outperforms most other charities in America.  We are also a GuideStar Platinum participant which shows our financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency.  You may notice that we are different from many other nonprofits.  Our volunteers govern and operate our organization without any monetary compensation and all of our fundraising income after operating expenses returns to the Austin community through our programs.

Please come visit us at our location in the Lo-Burn IBIZ District of Austin. Shop at our THRIFT HOUSE or stop in for a tour.  We would love for you to join us in our service to the Austin area.
