Assistance League of the Bay Area Concludes Operation School Bell Phase I

The chapter was thrilled to serve 3,034 students, the highest number to date, through Operation School Bell®. This is Assistance League® of the Bay Area’s signature philanthropic program.

These students were dressed over three weeks at area Kohl’s stores, and the Target store on Galveston Island.

Students from Clear Creek, Deer Park, Dickinson, Friendswood, Galveston, La Porte, and Texas City Independent School Districts, as well as charter public school Mosbacher Odyssey Academy, were allowed to select school-appropriate clothing, shoes, and personal undergarments, on a designated day. Also, Sesame Workshop provided a book, introducing the character of Lily, a muppet experiencing homelessness and food insecurity, given to each shopper. They were also permitted to select grade-level books, generously donated by area school districts.

Members, community volunteers, and Kohl’s, and Target staff joined together to provide these families this opportunity. Favorite balloon artist, Clarence Cox, returned to all three Kohl’s stores to give an unexpected treat to customers.

The program has two phases. Phase I concluded on Saturday, September 21. Phase II begins on Thursday, October 3.
