Making Dreams Come True
Through Operation Cinderella, a philanthropic program that began in 2006, prom night is made possible for high school senior girls and boys. The chapter collects new and gently used formal dresses, shoes, purses, and jewelry for the Boutique Day. Students have a fairytale time trying on gowns and being pampered by member volunteers who assist as personal shoppers. Our male shoppers travel to League City to be outfitted by Jill’s Fashions and Bridals.
Students from Clear Creek, Dickinson, and La Porte ISDs and the Devereaux School are referred by their Communities In Schools coordinators or school counselors based on individual circumstances.
Thanks to the help from community businesses and individuals, Assistance League of the Bay Area made prom dreams come true for 217 senior students in the spring of 2016.
Jill’s Fashions & Bridals allowed Assistance League of the Bay Area to purchase tuxedo rentals at cost so that young men attending program may be properly outfitted for that special evening. In addition, they donate numerous beautiful ball gowns and shoes for our lady shoppers on Boutique Days.
The College of the Mainland’s Cosmetology School, Paul Mitchell The School in Webster, and San Jacinto Cosmetology Department provided salon services of applying make-up and creating that special hair-do.
The magical evening was also made possible by support from Assisteens and three school districts, Clear Creek, Dickinson, and La Porte as well as the Devereaux School in League City.
2017 Boutique Days Scheduled for March 5, 6, 27, and 28, 2017
It’s wonderful to be a Fairy Godmother with Operation Cinderella and Cinderfella (for the guys).
Take a look at some of the moments captured on each of our Boutique Days that were hosted at our award-winning Resale Shop. Ninety-seven (97) happy clients walked out of our facility during those four days of service.
One hundred twenty (120) young men will visit Jill’s Fashions and Bridals prior to the proms commencing to receive their rental attire.
Donations Accepted Year Round
Although Operation Cinderella’s busiest times are in the spring of each year, it’s never too early to donate a new or gently-used evening dress, jewelry, shoes or a purse to make our senior girls’ prom dreams come true.
In September 2015, our chapter was invited by National Assistance League to showcase this philanthropy at the Annual Conference. In addition, Operation Cinderella was featured at our membership meeting later that month as part of our Education Committee’s ongoing efforts to ensure all of our members and invited guests understand the details behind each of our eight philanthropic programs.
