Six Mecklenburg County Teen Court volunteers are being rewarded for their service to this program with Recognition Scholarships. In applying for the award, the seniors shared countless ways their lives have been enriched and transformed through their Teen Court experience.
“Our teens continue to distinguish themselves as jurors and attorneys in the courtroom,” said Marilyn Lisman, Assistance League of Charlotte past president and long-time volunteer with this program. “Teen Court has successfully served countless numbers of our youth for 25 years, and we initiated the scholarship recognition program three years ago to reward the dedication of our teen volunteers.”
Teen Court is a restorative justice program, enabling youth to make amends for mistakes in hearings held before a jury of their peers and with teen attorneys representing defense and prosecution. Essentially, teens are helping teens.
