Hosted by show producer Nolan Hong, Elevate 808 is a summer series focusing on uplifting stories featuring local non-profits and small businesses in Hawaii.

The program segment, filmed at Assistance League of Hawaii’s Thrift Shop and at an Operation Wildlife (OWL) presentation at Palisades Elementary School, showcased the organization’s mission of giving back to the community, especially underserved children.

Run entirely by volunteers, with over 100 members, Assistance League of Hawaii is always looking for more volunteers and donations.

The PSA started airing this month on Olelo cable TV, on a space available basis, among most of its cable TV and online channels.

The focus of the PSA is aimed at building awareness of our programs and volunteering. The image above is from the closing splash screen of the PSA.

Instrumental in bringing the PSA from concept to finished product are the following members and volunteers: Producers Chris Pelletier, Linda McColgan, Mary Monohon and Melvin Ah Ching. Special thanks to volunteer Lisa Davidson who wrote and edited the final script. Evern Williams of Olelo Community Relations and all the other people at that fine organization, who provided us with their technical expertise and airtime. Last but not least, a big mahalo to Hazel Sumile who became our on-air talent and the voice of Assistance League of Hawaii’s first video PSA.

Did you know that the Assistance League of Hawaii is 100% run by volunteers. Everyday preparing and operating the Thrift Shop; as well as planning and delivering our philanthropic services to keiki across the islands.

Operation School Bell is our signature philanthropic program. We offer many services to keiki. A new service we are providing is to the Family Programs Hawaii foster program with items such as Malama Bears, clothing, footwear, school supplies, art supplies, games, toys, personal hygiene items, bedding, duffle bags, back packs and other necessities as requested.

Our volunteers do an amazing job and love what they do!

Mimi Dizon came to Hawaii after marrying a local boy who was attending law school in her home state of Alabama. She’s a retired speech pathologist and also worked in real estate. She has 2 children and is a grandmother of 2. Her passion is as a choral singer. Mimi has sung with the Honolulu Symphony Chorus and currently with the Hawaii Vocal Arts Ensemble (Chaminade). During one of her three travels, she performed at the Sydney Opera House.

Mimi joined Assistance League of Hawaii to be a reading tutor and is looking forward to doing so in the Spring.
