  • The prospective member should know the following:
    1. The purpose of Assistance League of Las Vegas is to carry on the programs of philanthropic work in the community with an all-volunteer staff.
    2. Our philanthropic programs include: Operation School Bell®, The Kids on the Block, and programs operated through our Community Programs committee.
    3. Our resource development (fundraising) events and activities include: Thrift Shop sales, corporate donations and grants, Step Up for Students direct mailing, in memoriam donations, Holiday Bazaar, Amazon Smile and special events.
    4. Each member is required to report hours of service monthly for grant writing purposes and annual reporting to the national organization.
    5. Full Voting members are required to work the number of shifts voted on each year, which is currently 16 shifts (Fall New Members – 8 shifts, Winter New Members – 4 shifts). A shift is a 3 ½ hour commitment worked in the Thrift Shop, Operation School Bell, or The Kids on the Block (limits apply).
    6. Voting members are required to serve on two committees. Nonvoting members have no committee responsibilities, but can serve on committees in a non-voting capacity.
    7. Regular chapter meetings are the second Thursday of each month, excluding July and August. There is social time from 9:30-10:00 with the meeting starting promptly at 10:00. Voting members are required to attend.
    8. An orientation is conducted for new members.
    9. Each member is required to pass a basic background check.
    10. Annual dues are payable upon joining. The dues are $75.00 (Winter New Members - $40.00). From this fee, $40.00 covers National Assistance League dues and $35.00 is used in-house to cover membership development and refreshments. No philanthropic dollars are used for member expenses.
