Assistance League® in Action: Assault Kits Delivered

During the pandemic there are many needs that arise. Assistance League
partners with the Minnesota Hospital Association(MHA) to distribute Assault
Survivor Kits® to hospital emergency rooms and clinics throughout
Minnesota. Our member-led team works closely with the MHA to maintain
inventory levels.

On Wednesday, August 26th, Assistance League volunteers delivered 350
Assault Survivor Kits to the Minnesota Hospital Association. A team of
Assistance League volunteers assembled the kits over three days to allow for
social distancing. Thanks to all the members who were involved to make
sure the kits were delivered timely. A committee chair commented after the
packing session, “We hope this order will last through the end of the year
but our team will be ready again whenever more help is needed!”

Since 1993 Assistance League volunteers have helped to ease some of the
immediate stress and emotional pain by providing Assault Survivor Kits.
Sexual assault survivors are often discharged from emergency rooms with
only a hospital gown to wear because their clothes are needed as evidence.
The kits assembled by Assistance League member volunteers include a tee
shirt or sweatshirt, sweatpants, underwear, and toiletries.
