Clothing & Basic Needs

Operation School Bell® Clothes for Kids and Start Smart

Clothes for Kids provides new school clothing each year to students during annual distributions and through supplemental clothing closets at each partner school. Clothes For Kids Plus also provides ancillary clothing and hygiene supplies to our partner schools.

Food for kids

Operation School Bell® Food for Kids

To address the needs of hungry kids in North Minneapolis, Assistance League established Food for Kids in early 2012. Every Thursday, members meet at our warehouse to pack nutritious food into eco-friendly tote bags, which are then delivered to two North Minneapolis schools.

Literacy

Operation School Bell® Literacy+ and Our School Reads

Literacy+ supplies tutors for children to help them read at grade level. Studies show that students who are strong readers have a significantly greater chance for academic success. This program also provides books for children’s home libraries and reference materials for school libraries.

Teacher's Grants

Operation School Bell® Links to Learning

Assistance League of Minneapolis/St. Paul offers grants to teachers in the Minneapolis School District, the Richfield School District and St. Paul Public Schools. Each year this program enriches the classroom setting through this unique grant opportunity.

Student Recognition

Operation School Bell® Academic All Stars

Operation School Bell Academic All Stars recognizes students who are chosen by their teachers for achievements in academics, behavior, attendance and other important areas. It’s widely known that children are more likely to repeat behaviors that earn positive reinforcement.

Assault Survivor Kits®

Assistance League Assault Survivor Kits®

Assault Survivor Kits provides new clothing and toiletries to survivors of sexual assault. In 2020-2021, members packed 720 kits for delivery by the Minnesota Hospital Association to hospital emergency rooms statewide. Kits are created for women, men and children.
