In addition to our members and Dominion Energy employees, participating in this month’s packing event were volunteers from Nativity Parish, Springfield Golf and Country Club, and Hassinger/Armm Associates.  It’s always a fun time of laughter, friendship, and music when we gather to pack food for children in need.

This year, a greater percentage of our neighbors are struggling.  Costs are rising for food, clothing, and other essentials. The families and students we serve have felt that impact acutely.  Similarly, the costs we incur to provide the essentials have also increased.  That’s why we need your help TODAY.  If you’ve been blessed with good fortune and have reason to be thankful this year, please ‘pay it forward’ with a contribution.  We return to the community more than 85% of the funds we raise, so donors can be sure their generosity will have an immediate and important impact locally.

Join us in celebrating the essence of Thanksgiving by providing basic essentials to those who need them most.  We are an all-volunteer nonprofit organization serving children in need across Northern Virginia, and we will be extremely thankful for all contributions, no matter how big or small.

The wine flowed and the guests enjoyed appetizers provided by a dedicated member. The evening ended with a raffle drawing for a basket of wine and other goodies provided by a generous donor. All proceeds from this event will support our programs that provide essentials such as food, clothing, and books to children in local Title 1 schools.

Our members, assisted by Dominion Energy employee volunteers, assembled 1,900 bags of food for elementary school children in just over one hour. The packages — containing items such as ramen noodles, mac and cheese, pudding, yogurt, and healthy snacks — were delivered to six elementary schools to be distributed to students facing weekend food insecurity.

With the help of generous donors and grantors, we support children in need in eight Title 1 elementary schools in Fairfax and Prince William Counties, and Alexandria with our food, clothing, and literacy programs. Our Weekend Food for Kids program alone provides 1,900 food packets each month during the school year.

Your $60 ticket will include two glasses of wine, heavy appetizers, and live music, and will directly support Assistance League of Northern Virginia in helping meet the basic needs of children at the Title 1 schools we serve.

Your generosity allows us to continue making a meaningful difference to the students we serve. We fund our philanthropic programs through donations, grants, and fundraisers. With that funding, we provide 1,900 bags of nonperishable food each month for children to take home over the weekend when food insecurity is a concern. We also provide new clothing and toiletries and help support literacy through reading programs including tutoring and guest readers and through our “Build a Child’s Library” events at which children choose a new book of their own to keep.
