Operation School Bell®

Shopping Events

Low income school-aged children receive new clothes, shoes, hand-knitted hats, and dental supplies.  When a child’s basic needs are met, they can focus on their education and have a better opportunity to break the cycle of poverty.  This fiscal year, 753 children from 42 schools across Washington County from Enterprise to Hildale, plus Cedar City in Iron County, received new school clothing, shoes, and supplies.

Read Across America

Since our inception in 2008, we have always participated in Read Across America, an NEA program celebrating books and readers.  This year we traveled to Water Canyon Elementary in Hildale to read to the children at this relatively new school.  In addition, we will read to students at Escalante Valley Elementary in Beryl.  Each of the nearly 400 children receive a book of their own to take home.  Additional books were donated to the classrooms or school libraries.

Legacy of Literacy

Over 800 books were donated to schools in Southern Utah.

Preschool Reading

Our 2018 Preschool Reading Program started in January in four Title I classrooms at Red Mountain in Ivins, Heritage in St. George,  and Coral Canyon in Washington.  Approximately 30 member volunteers read to the kids in one hour intervals – why not become a member and join us!

The Spring Benefit is over and we want to thank everyone who contributed to its spectacular success.

Almost $36,000 was raised by the generous and caring people of our community to provide new school clothing, shoes, books and supplies to children struggling for basic needs. This eases the burden of poverty and helps kids fit in with peers while feeling more confident and eager to learn.

A special thanks to April Heath for being our keynote speaker, Eric and Andy Dodge for entertaining us, and Austin Lambert for providing the beautiful cello music welcome.

We were pleased to have Mayor Jon Pike and School District administrator Mike Carr join us.

We couldn’t do it without all of you!
