Ironman 70.3

World Class Athletes Show Their Stuff

What a thrill to serve the incredible athletes who come from all over the world to compete in this world class triathlon.

The race begins with a 1.2 mile swim at Sand Hollow Reservoir.  Shedding their wet suits, they immediately hop on their bikes for a 56 mile dash around the lake, up Highway 9, east to Red Hills Parkway and Snow Canyon Drive, then west to Taviawk Drive (400 West), and back to the uphill grind through Snow Canyon State Park, ultimately ending at Ancestor Square.  Phew!

And that’s not all…they top it off by trading their bikes for running shoes for a half marathon (13.1 miles) loop over Diagonal and Red Hills Parkway before heading back to the finish line.

By mid-morning, cups of ice had become a very popular handout rivaling water and other fluids available.

Our volunteers were worn out by shift end, so one can only imagine how the triathletes felt!
