What’s better than an afternoon in Oceanside? Two afternoons in Oceanside – spent at Camp Pendleton giving back to those who do so much for us.  This is exactly what eight of our Assistance League volunteers were able to experience.

Each year seven local Southern California Assistance League chapters combine financial resources and the time and energy of chapter volunteers to create a “Thank You” weekend for Marine families.  The seven chapters provided 790 children of military members with new back-to-school clothes, hygiene kits, gift cards for shoes and even stuffed animals for the younger students.

Our chapter purchased 862 boys jeans, gave 384 boys two pairs of jeans (768 total), and gave 31 gift cards to boys we couldn’t dress. We gave 94 jeans to the Family Readiness Officer at the end of event. Total number of boys serviced by our chapter – 415.

At the end of each day, students went away with not only a large bag full of new clothes, but huge smiles as well as thrilled as they felt they had received so much.  However, it was actually the volunteers who went away with the biggest smiles and the best feelings by having worked this wonderful event.
