Gingerbread Wars Benefit Operation School Bell

The Gingerbread Wars has resulted in a $618 donation designated for Operation School Bell!   “What is the Gingerbread Wars?” you may ask. It is an event held at James L. Day Middle School during which classes make gingerbread houses and the students rate the entries. They vote by putting coins in containers provided for each house.

Shortly before the holiday break in December, Cheryl Tukua, Assistant Principal, contacted us offering the proceeds from the contest to Assistance League. On January 3rd, Our Philanthropic Program Chairman and Operation School Bell Chairman went to the faculty staff development meeting and accepted 35 pounds worth of currency and coins. The staff was impressed with what we have accomplished during these unusual times and very proud to be sharing the funds with us.

This is the second time Assistance League has received the proceeds from the “Wars”. The first time was before schools were closed and Cheryl was working at Gardner Middle School. When asked why the school had chosen Assistance League to receive the funds, she said we had been providing some much needed services to Gardner through our philanthropic programs and they knew the money “would go to the kids”.

We send a big THANK YOU to the staff and students for their faith in us!
