In partnership with seven local elementary schools in 3 districts, Assistance League volunteers are helping students to strengthen their reading comprehension skills. Developed relationships begin with the volunteers and students when they meet on a weekly basis and continue throughout the year. Students select books at their reading level and to gauge their comprehension will take computerized test following the completion of the book. Teachers report that students are progressing and our volunteers are enjoying the opportunity to make a difference with individual children.
In 2019-20, 29 trained member volunteers worked weekly with 144 students over 1,500 hours
