Santa’s Closet

(Silver Senior Services)

Assistance League of Fullerton collaborates with Pathways To Hope, Council of PTA Organizations, and Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots, the Salvation Army, the Los Angeles Times Family Fund, the local Board of Realtors and many church congregations in the city of Fullerton to host the Annual Holiday Clearing Program at the Pathways of Hope Distribution Center. It is located at 611 S. Ford Avenue in Fullerton, California.

The program helps approximately 800 families in need, in the Fullerton School District, enjoy the holiday season. Approximately 4,000 people receive nonperishable foods, vouchers for food and merchandise, gift cards, books, toys and other merchandise. Low income families with children in elementary and junior high school are selected by the schools to participate in this program. The program runs for 12 days from the Monday after Thanksgiving through mid-December. Families are given an appointment time to come to the Distribution Center to receive their gifts. Two chapter members help each day with the distribution of these gifts. Assistance League of Fullerton distributed $30 gift cards for our Thrift Shop to each family. This program touches many lives in our community and enriches the lives of those who contribute their time and resources.

Our Silver Senior programs started as a senior citizen outreach for our Santa’s Closet philanthropic program.  Members had requested that we include seniors in our philanthropies and the answer was our Silver Santa and Silver Spring gift bags to seniors receiving services from the Meals on Wheels of Fullerton.  These 160 gift bags included hygiene items and many gifts our seniors are unable to shop for themselves.   Our members realized how important the program was when we received notes saying how wonderful it was to not be forgotten during these holidays.
